On November 3, 2010, Robert David Berstein (BSCE 1976) lost his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Rob was a long-time friend and active member of the Civil and Environmental Engineering External Advisory Board, not mention an enthusiastic Yellow Jackets fan.
Born in Portland Oregon in 1953, Rob was a resident of Seattle, Washingtom for twenty-seven years. In additon to his BSCE from Georgia Tech, he earned an MS in civil engineering from Northwestern University. He was a very successful transportation engineer and planner, an avid cyclist, and a loving family man.
Edward Clark (BSCE 1964, MSCE 1966), who served with Rob on the School's advisory board, has known Rob for more than thirty years. He states, “I met Rob soon after he graduated from Georgia Tech and found him throughout his life to be energetic, caring and always able to come up with fresh ideas on how to solve a problem. He was passionate about many things, with his family first and Georgia Tech and friends high on his list. I will miss him.”
Rob is survived by his wife of 35 years, Hilary, and his children, Arielle, Ethan, and Jaron as well as many loving family members and friends. Remembrances can be made in Rob's name to the Georgia Tech Civil and Environmental Engineering External Advisory Board fund, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, or the Marsha Rivkin Center for Cancer Research.
