Georgia Tech is now home to the No. 1 environmental engineering program in the nation.

U.S. News and World Report has released its 2026 Best Colleges rankings, featuring Georgia Tech’s undergraduate environmental engineering at No. 1 and civil engineering at No. 2.

“What a fantastic recognition for our programs,” said Karen and John Huff School Chair Don Webster. “I’m thrilled to see our environmental engineering program named the best in the nation. Together with the outstanding No. 2 ranking of our civil engineering program, this is the highest aggregate ranking we’ve ever achieved as a School. The caliber of our curriculum, faculty impact, and student accomplishments helped us reach this outstanding recognition.”

Environmental engineering was ranked No. 1 for the first time in the School’s history.

The undergraduate program jumped to the top spot after maintaining the No. 3 ranking for the past four years.

Civil engineering moved to No. 2 after holding the No. 1 ranking on the 2025 list. Civil engineering has consistently dominated the national rankings, alternating between the top two spots for the past five years.

The 2026 rankings were favorable for the Institute all around. The College of Engineering was ranked No. 3 and Georgia Tech was ranked No. 32 among all colleges nationwide.
