Biography

Dr. Lindsey graduated with a BS degree from the University of Tennessee. Upon graduation, he went to work as the chief engineer for a steel fabricator (Volunteer Structures, Inc. in Nashville, TN) and held that position for five years. During these five years he continued his education part time at Vanderbilt University and received his MS degree. At the end of the five years he formed his own structural engineering company, Stanley D. Lindsey and Associates, Ltd., in Nashville, TN. He continued to attend Vanderbilt University and received his Ph.D. in structural engineering.Over the next twenty years his firm specialized in steel structures and was recognized with awards from AISC for creative and innovative designs. The writer also received several awards and was appointed to Committee on Specifications for AISC. He has served on the committee for over 15 years and was Chair for four years.Three years ago the writer accepted a position of Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Georgia Institute of Technology (GT). Here his work has been developing innovative ways to teach Steel Design using web based technologies. His work has produced new ways of incorporating the latest technologies into the classroom. The technology he was first to use at GT three years is now about to adopted for campus wide use at GT. Through his hands-on teaching and development he has discovered a very effective manner to reach students and improve the learning experience.
