Summary of CEE Web Page Offerings / Access
What does breadcrumbing mean in webpage terms.
As of Fall 2007 CEE has migrated course management to the campus T-Square service. T-Square can be access by going to https://t-square.gatech.edu
The CEE Faculty and Staff web pages are hosted on the server depot.ce.gatech.edu
To modify these pages follow these steps:
- Follow these instructions to open your folder on the web server
- Depeding on how you connected:
- Using Windows File Sharing, open MyWeb
- Using SFTP or CEEINFO, open the public_html folder
Note: All of the files in this directory are available via the web - only place public files in this directory
Note: For research pages, open the appropriate folder under the MyWeb or public_html folder.
3. Use your favorite web page editor (FrontPage, DreamWeaver, WordPad, vi) to make the desired changes.
All changes are immediate and permanent - be sure you are changing the correct files.
General Suggestions
ISG has a few suggestions to help you keep your web pages organized and in good working order:
* Keep a local copy of your web pages. Create a folder on your computer and copy your faculty/staff web pages into that folder. Make all of your edits on those local files. When you are happy with the results and you want to publish the pages, copy the updated files to the server. This method will also allow you to make your modifications from a ZIP disk or while travelling and update the changes when you return to campus.
* Use one of ISG's suggested editors. If you are very familiar with HTML code, you can use any text editor to make your changes. If not, we have found that both Microsoft Frontpage and Macromedia Dreamweaver meet HTML standards very closely. While other editors may work, you may also notice strange behaviors with other editors. Frontpage is licensed under the campus license agreement with Microsoft. Dreamweaver is available from the University System of Georgia's Microcomputer Software Distribution organization for much less than the off the shelf price.
* Use relative HTML links whenever possible.
When creating links between your pages, refer to files relative to the file you're editing. If you use absolute names (i.e. "http://classes.ce.gatech.edu/mypage/images/picture.jpg"), then you will have to edit every link on every page if you re-use the pages. Instead use "../images/picture.jpg"
* Keep you main index file name "index.htm", "index.html" or "index.asp". Our web server automatically looks for one of these three files as your starting page when it enters your directory. If you rename this file, your students may have difficulties with the site.
To submit a news item to be posted to the CEE website send an email to communications@ce.gatech.edu You can include an attachment (preferably a PDF or gif/jpg image). The file name should have NO spaces in it. If you know of another website that has more details about the news item you can include the URL in your email for linking to that website.
CEE news items now require a photo to go along with the news item. Please include (attach) a photo along with the text of the news item.

CEE offers three types of web pages for faculty and staff to publish information:
- Personal faculty and staff web pages
- Course web pages for CEE courses
- Research web pages to publish research activities
These three types of pages are hosted on two different servers:
- depot.ce.gatech.edu hosts the faculty and staff web pages
- t-square.gatech.edu hosts the course web pages
- depot.ce.gatech.edu hosts the research web pages

Breadcrumbing is a navigational way to follow the path you have taken through a website. For the CEE website the "breadcrumbing" is located in the top gray bar. All CEE pages start with "Georgia Tech" then "College of Engineering" then "CEE". From there it follows the path of pages the user has clicked on.
For example, the breadcrumbing for this page is: "Georgia Tech >> College of Engineering >> CEE >> FAQs >> FAQ Answers" each of these is a clickable link going back to the previous page in the navigation tree. This way you can quickly and easily retrace the path you have taken throughout the site (all the way back to the Georgia Tech main website).
