Simon wins Tech’s top award for graduate academic advising

Graduate Programs Manager Robert Simon has won Georgia Tech's Outstanding Graduate Academic Advising Award for 2016.

Robert Simon’s work with School of Civil and Environmental Engineering graduate students has earned him one of Georgia Tech’s top awards.

Simon is the 2016 recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Academic Advising Award. The awards committee noted his dedication to supporting students and enriching their educational experience on campus.

“I enjoy graduate student services since so many aspects of graduate education converge in our office: recruitment, admission, fellowships, employment, academics, research, and my personal favorite, policy,” said Simon, the School's graduate programs manager. “Understanding that this positioning is perhaps a bit unique, we try to utilize our knowledge and familiarity with Institute policies and procedures to be a comprehensive resource for all of CEE – students, faculty, and staff.”

Simon will receive his award at the Faculty and Staff Honors Luncheon in April. He said he knows many of his colleagues around campus who are very talented, so that makes this recognition special.

“I consider myself very lucky.  I get to work on a college campus, which has to be one of the more appealing job environments around, and I work with incredible people, who are supportive, brilliant, collaborative, and inspiring,” Simon said.

“It’s certainly an honor to be recognized.”
