Maintaining its position among the most elite programs in the country, the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech sustained a coveted top-ten position among graduate and undergraduate engineering programs in U.S. News and World Report’s latest rankings.
According to the March 2007 release of “America’s Best Graduate Schools 2008,” Tech’s graduate program in environmental engineering ranked fourth – the highest position since the program entered the rankings in 1993. The graduate program in civil engineering held firm with its fourth place position.
The undergraduate programs also remained strong in the latest rankings released in August 2007, with the civil engineering program placing fifth, and the environmental engineering program eighth.
“This recognition marks tremendous momentum at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering,” said School Chair Joe Hughes. “We continually strive for excellence, and the rankings reflect our world class programs, faculty and student body.”
Georgia Tech overall ranks seventh among the nation’s public universities for undergraduates - the highest ranking in the Institute’s history - and is among the top ten public universities for the ninth consecutive year. According to U.S. News and World Report, Tech moved up to the seventh spot from eighth last year (among public universities) and moved up two spots to 35th among all national universities.
“Georgia Tech continues to distinguish itself as one of the top national universities over the last decade,” said President Wayne Clough. “This recognition reflects the high quality of our programs, faculty and students, and our growing momentum.”
Georgia Tech alumni continue to be among of the most generous. The percentage of Tech graduates contributing to the Institute is the highest for any public university ranked in the top 50.
The rankings, which are determined by collecting and analyzing data such as peer assessments and research funds, serve to provide an independent assessment of the academic quality of graduate programs.
