Water coagulationTitle: water coagulation & flocculation experiment used in the removal of natural organic matter (NOM)

Water coagulationDescription: water coagulation & flocculation experiment used in the removal of natural organic matter (NOM) from surface waters.

These NOM compounds are precursors to formation of disinfection byproducts (e.g., trihalomethanes (THMs) & haloacetic acids -- all are carcinogens) that are a major concern in US potable waters. These disinfection byproducts (DBPs) are formed in our water systems as a result of the presence of chlorine disinfectants with NOM.
The benefits of the chlorine disinfectants wrt inactivation of pathogens far outweighs the concerns for THM etc formation but we are trying nationally to remove these as well.

Hence our research on removal of NOM from surface waters (as seen in the picture!).
