The annual Georgia Tech Faculty/Staff Honors Luncheon recognizes faculty and staff who have received accolades and awards throughout the previous academic year. The 2009 Faculty/Staff Honors Luncheon will be held Wednesday, April 15, at Noon in the Student Center Ballroom. This year's event will recognize the dedication and achievement of two individuals in CEE:
Dr. Laurie Garrow, assistant professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), has been selected to receive the 2009 CETL/BP Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award. She will receive a check for $1500 and a certificate. In addition, she will be honored at the New Faculty Orientation Dinner to be held at the Fox Theater on August 13th. The Award Selection Committee was very impressed by the evidence submitted in support of Dr. Garrow's nomination for this award. Dr. Joyce Weinsheimer, associate director for faculty development for the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning stated "Your creative approach to teaching is noteworthy, and we definitely value the impact you're having on students and the curriculum at Georgia Tech." In addition, CEE School Chair and Professor Joseph Hughes added "since joining our program, Dr. Garrow has shown a true dedication and commitment to both research and teaching and has established herself as a national leader." The award, established in 1990, is offered through the joint support of CETL and BP America. It provides Georgia Tech with the opportunity to highlight the excellent teaching and the educational innovation that Junior Faculty bring to campus. Previous CEE faculty winners include Drs. Michael Hunter (2008), Jaehong Kim (2007), Donald Webster (2001), and Larry Jacobs (1991).
Undergraduate Advisor Rob Hudgins has been selected to receive the 2009 Outstanding Undergraduate Academic Advisor Award. This award will consist of a plaque and a check for $2000. "The decision (for this award) was made by a committee of advising staff and faculty who found themselves awed by the excellence of advising at Georgia Tech. Thank you for all that you all do as your hard work and dedication to academic advising help continue Georgia Tech's tradition of excellence," said Dr. Dana Hartley, director of Undergraduate Studies for Georgia Tech. CEE Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Don Webster, stated "Rob works tirelessly to advise our growing student population and the award is very well deserved. Please join me in congratulating Rob for this outstanding honor.
The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering would like to congratulate both of these deserving winners.
