The Georgia Tech steel bridge team competed on May 23-24 at the National Student Steel Bridge Competition, sponsored by ASCE and AISC and held at the University of Florida, Gainesville.

The Georgia Tech team finished 9th overall in a field of 42 universities from across the nation. UC-Berkeley, U. Florida and UC-Davis finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd overall. Tech beat arch nemesis Clemson (11th overall).

Co-captains Kris Neighbor and Nate Blong along with constructors Ben Allread and Matt Kosar build the 20-ft arch span in 7 minutes. The bridge deflected less than 1/2-inch under the prescribed 2500 lb. Team members Michael Foote, Lauen Mize, Maria Geonczy and Mark Caruso accompanied the constructors to Gainesville along with team coach, Mr. Andy Udell, and advisor, Dr. Larry Kahn.
