Position Title: Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems

The Georgia Institute of Technology seeks an innovative, dynamic, and experienced scholar and leader for the newly formed Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems (ISS). The Director will hold the position of Hightower Chair for Environmental Technologies and Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar. Georgia Tech’s Institute for Sustainable Systems is a global and comprehensive sustainability program that addresses both the challenges and opportunities associated with sustainability in the 21st Century. Georgia Tech takes an interdisciplinary systems approach to sustainability that addresses the complex interactions of technological, scientific, and management systems as they relate to the environment. Focus areas include sustainable energy systems, climate and environmental stewardship, sustainable enterprise, and sustainable urban systems. Georgia Tech is seeking a Director of the Institute for Sustainable Systems to lead the development and growth of the Institute in interdisciplinary systems-based research, interdisciplinary education, innovation, and outreach programs. The University seeks an exceptional scholar with a distinguished record of teaching and research accomplishments in any relevant field encompassed by the Colleges at Georgia Tech: Engineering, Science, Computing, Architecture, Management, and Ivan Allen (social sciences and humanities). Most importantly, we seek a strong leader who has the ability to:

• provide intellectual and innovative leadership for the Institute;
• catalyze sustainability activities across campus, including research centers and institutes, education programs, innovation initiatives, green campus initiative;
• work with development and communications staff in marketing the Institute;
• increase the impact of the Institute in the broader community..

Position Title: F.R. Dickerson Chair in Information Intensive Urban Transportation Systems

GEORGIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for the F.R. Dickerson Chair in Information Intensive Urban Transportation Systems.

We are seeking outstanding applicants to add to our existing strengths in Transportation. Our primary interest is for candidates in the broad areas of intelligent transportation systems with special interest in the application of information and communication technologies to transportation system operations. The possibility exists for a joint appointment in computer science, electrical engineering, or industrial and systems engineering. The ideal candidate will complement existing strengths and ongoing research of the transportation faculty and other related fields at Georgia Tech. This includes a wide range of topics from logistics/supply chain modeling to geometric design of highways to the integration of emisisons modeling and congestion pricing. This Chair is intended to serve as the foundation for major research and education initiatives in advancing the technological sophistication of urban transportation systems particularly through the application of advanced communications and computing to facilitate congestion reduction and energy efficiency. Particular interest will be given to those candidates that have demonstrated experience and success with collaborative efforts working with firms in the communications and information technologies fields.

The Chair will be housed in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, which was established at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1898. Today, both the undergraduate and graduate programs in the School are ranked among the top five civil and environmental engineering programs in the United States. Over 55 full-time, tenure-track faculty members teach courses and conduct research in environmental engineering, geosystems engineering; structural engineering, mechanics and materials; transportation systems engineering; and environmental fluid mechanics and water resources. Annual sponsored research expenditures consistently exceed $9 million. The faculty has a long-standing tradition of interdisciplinary research with a broad spectrum of opportunities for collaboration available at Georgia Tech and neighboring universities. In addition the School strives to create a spirit of entrepreneurship that encompasses all of its activities.
