Title: Spotlight Profile on Laurie Garrow
Dr. Laurie Garrow recently received an Honorable Mention in the Eric Pas Dissertation Prize competition sponsored by the International Association of Travel Behavior Research (IATBR). The Pas Prize, announced at the 2006 meeting of the Transportation Research Board (TRB), was the largest on record, with 17 dissertations nominated in four languages (English, French, German and Spanish) from eight countries.
Dr. Laurie Garrow recently received an Honorable Mention in the Eric Pas Dissertation Prize competition sponsored by the International Association of Travel Behavior Research (IATBR). The Pas Prize, announced at the 2006 meeting of the Transportation Research Board (TRB), was the largest on record, with 17 dissertations nominated in four languages (English, French, German and Spanish) from eight countries.
The award recognizes Dr. Garrow's dissertation research, which developed models to predict airline passengers' no show and standby behavior and advanced discrete choice theories related to choice-based sampling and mixed logits. Her more recent work on airline passenger demand with Roger Parker of Boeing also won the “Best Presentation” award at the May 2006 Scheduling and Strategic Planning Study Group of AGIFORS (Airline Group of the International Federation of Operations Research).
Dr. Garrow joined the Transportation group in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech in August 2004. Her research interests focus on the development of advanced models of travel demand and development of pricing and revenue management models. Her current research includes work with airlines, hotels, on-line travel agents, metropolitan planning organizations, and the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Dr. Garrow was recently elected Vice-Chair of the Urban Transportation Special Interest Group of the Transportation Science and Logistics Society of INFORMS, serves as Co-Chair of the Scheduling and Strategic Planning Study Group of AGIFORS, and serves as Co-Chair of the Emerging Methods sub-division of the Passenger Travel Demand Forecasting Committee of TRB. She was also one of the lead organizers for the second annual Georgia Tech Revenue Management and Price Optimization workshop.
