GT Data Cleanup Campaign

Many of you may have already heard, or seen the posters in Mason, SEB, and ES&T, about the 2008 GT Data Cleanup Campaign. This campaign is a new initiative to destroy, archive, or securely retain any data or documents (in electronic or paper form) that may contain sensitve information. Please take a moment to visit the GT Data Cleanup Campaign website to familiarize yourselves with the program and the requirements. Anyone who works with student data, including grades, should also review the FAQ (pdf).

The campus IT staff has been asked to assist faculty and staff in identifying sensitive data that may be stored on desktop or laptop systems. Beginning next week, CEE ISG Staff will be visiting each faculty and staff member to do the following:

  1. Install and run a scanning tool to identify any electronic files that may contain sensitive data.
  2. Generate a report listing any identified files.
  3. Delivering the report to the faculty or staff member using the computer for review.
  4. Assisting the faculty or staff member in deleting, moving, or archiving any sensitive informaiton.
