Academic Advisement Program in CEE

The objective of the undergraduate advisement program is to provide both academic and professional guidance to students majoring in CEE. The advisement system consists of three complementary programs, FASET Orientation, CEE Student Services Office, and Faculty Advisement. The faculty advisement component is voluntary, but strongly encouraged of all CEE majors. A brief description of each advising component is given below, followed by a more detailed description of specific issues related to faculty advisement.

FASET Orientation

The FASET (Familiarization and Adaptation to the Surroundings and Environs of Tech) program provides incoming freshman and transfer students (and their parents/guardians) with a general introduction to Georgia Tech. Students who have selected CEE as their major attend a session organized by the Associate Chair of Undergraduate Studies (Donald Webster) to learn more about degree requirements, select first semester courses, and address specific issues. Although FASET is not mandatory, approximately 97% of all incoming freshman attend.

CEE Student Services Office

The Student Services Office, under the direction of Dr. Jaehong Kim, will be primarily responsible for explaining basic degree requirements and specialization options, establishing and maintaining student schedule flow charts, assisting students with course scheduling, assigning faculty advisors, administering advisement registration holds, ensuring that all students meet degree requirements, and submitting degree petitions. Students are required to meet with Students Services Staff (Ms. Tracy Boothe, Ms. Mary George, or Dr. Jaehong Kim) at least once per academic year.

CEE Faculty Advisement

Faculty members will be responsible for assisting students with the development of a program of undergraduate study. This will involve providing students with advice and guidance with the selection of CEE core options, specialization areas within CEE, and elective courses both outside and within CEE. In addition, faculty members are encouraged to provide assistance with career development and job placement, continuing education, and undergraduate research opportunities. In most cases, issues regarding registration, degree petitions, and transfer credits should be deferred to or confirmed with the Student Services Office. Student advisees are expected to meet with their faculty advisor at least once per academic year.
